NEWS IN BRIEF...
Italian technical compound- er Lati, which operates two plants in the Lombardy region as well as one in China, has gained the international “Great Place to Work” certification. The move follows it transitioning to a Benefit Company last year, which under Italian law requires it to demonstrate creation of value for society.

Sustainability project to focus on headlamps
A consortium including Hella, Covestro, BMW, and other partners, has com- menced a three-year research project aimed at optimising the sustainability of complex products such as headlights. The project, called
Nalyses, started in October 2022 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Miele is also involved as an associated partner with the aim of evaluating the transferability of results to the production of household appliances. “The focus of our
involvement in this pioneer- ing project is the design of a
Entek completes plant in Nevada; plans to launch160mm extruder
US-based compounding machinery maker Entek is close to completing the first phase of its new 30,000m² manufacturing facility at Henderson in Nevada. Around $15m has been invested in the facility, which the company says will allow it to develop its wear parts division, which makes
replacement screws and barrels, for both Entek and non-Entek twin-screw extruders.
Alongside the plant investments, Entek says it is also developing what will be its largest twin-screw extruder to date. The company said the new 160mm machine will be
targeting high-output applications including masterbatch compounding. Entek’s current largest extruder is a 133mm model. Read more about Entek’s plans and other compound- ing machinery develop- ments in the twin screw compounder feature on page 41.
Conductive PBT targets automotive sensors
Duranex PBT 201EB is a new electri- cally conductive PBT grade from Polyplastics designed for millimetre wave automotive radar sensor applica- tions, which the company identifies as a fast growing market.

The company says using electro- magnetic wave absorbing materials in the back face of radomes reduces reflection noise and detection errors but incorporation can be challenging with current materials.
By basing its new Duranex PBT 201EB grade on the same PBT resin used to produce radomes, it paves the way for overmoulded assembly, which simplifies design and saves cost.

area [and] as part of the new project want to work with partners to develop a near-series solution that incorporates the entire product cycle.”
