NEWS Obituary: Adam Dreiblatt

CPM Century Extrusion Director of Process Technology Adam Dreiblatt passed away on 15 February this year at the age of 66 after a near year-long battle with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Dreiblatt described himself as an

“extrusioneering professional”. He had worked for CPM since 2007, having previously run a twin screw extrusion training and simulation software business for 13 years. A true extrusion expert, sharing compounding expertise was a key

priority for Dreiblatt. He regularly spoke about process technology at conferences and expos — including our own Com- pounding World Expos — and was known by CPM customers and beyond. Dreiblatt was also an enthusiastic contributor to Compounding World, most recently in December last year, and we would like to acknowledge his insight over the years. Dreiblatt is survived by his wife

Michele, children Alex, Perri and Ethan, and grandchildren Aviv and Zev.

LyondellBasell and Kirkbi (the investment arm of Lego Group) are to make a €130m investment in Germany’s APK, which has developed a solvent-based plastics recycling technol- ogy for PE-based films. Marketed as Newcycling,

the APK process can separate the different polymers of multi-layer and multi-material PE-based packaging materials and produce recycled resin with a high level of purity. Under the agreement, LyondellBasell and Kirkbi

APK’s Newcycling plant at Merseburg in Germany

will become minority shareholders in APK. “We need to advance the

recycling of all types of plastic waste material gener- ated today to support the goal of a circular economy,” said Yvonne van der Laan, LyondellBasell Executive Vice President, Circular and Low Carbon Solutions.” n In a separate move, LyondellBasell has signed a long-term contract with Nexus Circular to source around 24,000 tonnes of recycled feedstock each year from the latter’s planned chemical recycling facility. www.lyondellbasell.com www.apk.group
