Celanese closes compounding facility in South Korea

US-headquartered Celanese has announced the immediate closure of its compounding facility in Ulsan, South Korea, with production being transferred to the company’s Nanjing and Shenzhen plants in China, and to its plant in Silvassa, India. The group said that over the past

several years, it has taken significant measures to ensure reliability of supply by investing in world-class compounding assets in strategically important locations and working to

provide its customers with engineered materials products of superior quality, performance, and reliability. The company maintains it is under- taking these actions to fortify the operating structure of its Engineered Materials business, while simultane- ously optimising its cost, manufacturing production footprint, and strengthen- ing its regional supply chain network. The broader Asia region represents significant opportunities for expan- sion, said Celanese, which is building

manufacturing and compounding capabilities closer to its customer base to better meet this growing demand. The closure of the Ulsan facility is

part of Celanese’s Grow & Fortify strategy to enhance operational resilience, improve cash generation, and shift towards higher-margin segments. The strategy includes restructuring the group’s polyamide 66 business (Compounding World June 2026) www.celanese.com

Plast show is deemed a success

The twentieth edition of Plast, Italy’s international plastics exhibition, ended on 12 June at Fiera Milano, Rho, with the final figures underscoring the success of the event despite continued uncertainty within the industry, said the organiser Promaplast. In total, there were 35,000

attendees with around 25% coming from other countries and over 1,000 exhibiting companies, 44% of which were international.

8 “We feared far heavier

repercussions of the global geopolitical situation on Plast, which instead con- firmed itself as a European point of reference for the plastics and rubber industry, restoring confidence to many of the exhibitors we met,” said Mario Maggiani, Managing Director of Promaplast. “The reality is that today

The next edition of Plast is set for 2029. https://plastonline.org

Covestro has opened a new thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) Application Development Centre in Guangzhou, China, complementing its TPU production site in Zhuhai, which began operations earlier this year, and its regional R&D centre in Changhua. “This new Application Development Centre represents a strategic cornerstone in our global TPU strategy,” said Andrea Maier-Richter, Global Head of TPU at Covestro. “We will explore, pilot, and upscale new application fields for TPU in robotics, healthcare, and mobility solutions together with our customers.” The Asia-Pacific TPU
