despite variations in materials and processing conditions. The series includes the P200 and P300 models, both of which feature a lightweight, ergonomic design, intuitive touchscreen interface, and camera assisted sample alignment. Where they differ is the P200 is designed for everyday quality control tasks, while the P300 offers advanced capabilities including dual apertures, UV calibra- tion, gloss assessment, wireless connectivity, and image capture for enhanced traceability.

Portable performance Colour control specialist BYK-Gardner is introduc- ing the Color2go, a portable spectrophotometer that combines precise colour and 60° gloss measurement with digital standards. The instru- ment complements the newly introduced entry- level portable spectrophotometer Color2check and extends BYK Gardner’s portfolio to meet the full range of customer requirements. The Color2go features a lightweight and rugged design with horizontal alignment, while its 2.8-in touchscreen with icon based menus, clear data tables, and graphical displays, ensures intuitive operation in laboratory, production, or field environments. Technical performance is a key criterion when selecting a portable spectropho- tometer, especially when they are used in a global supply chain process. The Color2go offers im- proved measurement accuracy and supports the exchange of digital standards, enabling consistent colour management across locations and partners worldwide. In materials containing fluorescent ingredients, long term colour stability may be affected by exposure to sunlight. The Color2go detects fluorescence and provides a warning message when such materials are measured, helping users evaluate potential colour changes and ensuring greater confidence in quality assessments. “This is a decisive advantage, particularly in the

context of increasing recycled content,” said Anita Fehr, Product Manager Color at BYK Instruments. “Colour deviations and ageing effects can be detected early and corrected during processing. Even if a polymer such as unmodified ABS does not originally contain any fluorescent ingredients, its fluorescence can still change during processing. This effect is related to chemical and physical changes in the material during thermal and mechanical processing.” German colour technology group ColVisTec says it is taking a step forward with GelDetect. Gels represent a significant quality issue, particularly for the film manufacturing industry. They are incom-

pletely melted polymer particles within the melt stream and can negatively affect the final product, both visually and in terms of mechanical and functional properties. Early and reliable detection is therefore vital. The first GelDetect prototype, which detects gel particles in real time directly in the polymer melt and also enables the quantification of the disturbance level, has successfully passed its initial field test at a ColVisTec customer. It is based on an optical method in transmission configuration, applied directly in the polymer melt stream of extruders. For this purpose, ColVisTec uses its proven fibre-optic probes for extrusion applica- tions ensuring gels are detected immediately, displayed live, and issued as instant warnings. Another project ColVisTec is working on focuses on comprehensive data acquisition in recycling by combining all three inline spectrometer technolo- gies, UV/Vis, NIR, and Raman, as the basis for corrective solutions using AI. Partners in these projects include the South German Plastics Centre SKZ in Würzburg, Germany, and the Institute of Plastics and Circular Economy IKK at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany.
