TECHNOLOGY | MATERIALS HANDLING

For moderately flowing bulk materials such as powders, the Prorate Plus line also offers the Plus-MT twin screw feeder with horizontal agitator and steep hopper walls which helps prevent bridging. This piece of kit can also be equipped with a Proflow. Schenck Process FPM (which is becoming part

of Coperion’s group of brands – see News) says its MechaTron Flat Bottom (FB) feeder has been designed specifically for handling materials with light and fluffy characteristics, but adds that it is well-suited to handle a wide range of volumetric or gravimetric feeding applications for bulk solid materials. With a bottom driven vertical agitator as well as an auxiliary agitator, it is considered especially suitable for hard-to-feed materials such as chopped PP or PET plastic film, and possesses all the design features that manufac- turers require for efficient processing. For example,

complete disassembly from the non-process side of the feeder eliminates the need to remove upper extension hoppers, bins, bulk bags, and IBCs for cleaning or maintenance, and flexible or stainless steel hoppers are available to accommodate dry material feeding.

Opportunities Entek, the US manufacturer of turnkey production systems, twin-screw extruders, and replacement components, displayed material handling systems at NPE 2024. In 2022, Entek acquired Adaptive Engineering and Fabrication (AEF), a specialist manufacturer of

materials handling equipment in Placentia, Califor- nia. Rick Buschini, VP Material Handling Sales, said at NPE that the focus in the first two years following the acquisition was on efficiency and cost pro- grams. AEF had been a long-term partner of Entek for a number of years prior to the acquisition, and he said this close relationship is now enabling Entek to exploit opportunities. In the areas of twin-screw technology and PVC blenders, the combined Entek-AEF business has started to sell turnkey plants. At the NPE show, material handling systems shown on the Entek stand included a vacuum loader and filter receiver designed for difficult to handle materials and primarily focused on pow- ders. The systems can be sized from 100 to over 40,000 lb per hour depending on the customer’s need. One of the key components of the system is a long lasting filter which is easy to change, increas- ing productivity and reducing downtime. Industrial equipment supplier Movacolor recently launched its new MDS Volumetric Feeder as an additional solution to its modular dosing and blending concept specifically targeting plastic manufacturers seeking a cost-effective solution to optimise material handling. This feeder allows for smooth, reliable dosing, and has the capability to handle a wide variety of materials from granular to microgranulate and free-flowing powder up to 70° C. Movacolor says the MDS Volumetric Feeder is

easy to operate, which minimises overdosing and saves material costs, and comes with an efficient and reliable stepper motor, rigid dosing house, stainless- steel hopper, and a robust neckpiece housing a centralised insert which ensures optimal blend
