Sabic offers a wide range of materials for drug delivery applications such as this autoinjector prototype

Lubriloy compounds for

wear/friction parts. In addition to being certified

under UL746G, this new resin retains excellent impact performance and resists

degradation under exposure to aggressive disinfectants while also providing UL94 V0 flame retardance at 1.5 mm for thin-wall geometries, making it well-suited for applications such as insulin pumps, diagnostic imaging devices, and monitors. Additionally, LNP Elcres CRX copolymer resins provide best-in-class chemical resistance for equipment and device housings, while LNP SLX grades offer impact and UV resistance for applica- tions such as the transparent cover of Rotaid’s AED cabinet. To advance surgical robot technology, Ultem HU resins deliver lightweight strength in robot wrist and arm base components, the poly- etherimide (PEI) resins being compatible with popular sterilisation methods and illustrating the broad scope of Sabic’s medical-grade portfolio. “Sabic is investing in the research and develop-

ment of new materials that can help OEMs get ahead of the curve in compliance and perfor- mance,” said Sergi Monros, Vice President, Sabic Polymers, Specialties BU. “Our deep understanding of customers’ current and future application needs allows Sabic to be proactive in creating new grades that meet these requirements.” UK-based Matrix Plastics established Matrix Medical Plastics in 2020 to meet urgent demand for compliant medical equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic and now specialises in compounding and masterbatch solutions for

various medical applications at a purpose-built facility in Slough, Berkshire. The plant is the only fully-certified medical colour and additive com- pounding facility in the UK and features a dedi- cated cleanroom environment that can achieve ISO Class 7 particle count standards and adheres to the globally recognised ISO 13485:2016 quality management system.

Colour Central to the company’s offering is its ability to develop bespoke colour, additive, and functional formulations tailored specifically for medical components. These solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly into customers’ existing moulding and extrusion processes while maintain- ing consistency, traceability, and regulatory compliance. Whether requirements include precise colour matching, radiopacity, antimicrobial performance, UV stability, or other functional enhancements, Matrix said it provides technically robust solutions aligning with FDA and WHO frameworks. The company’s expertise was recog- nised at the Plastics Industry Awards 2025, where it won the Material Innovation Award in Medical Materials for a collaboration with KraussMaffei. Eurotec products are used in medical devices

such as respirators, ventilators, masks, goggles, and hospital bed equipment, where hygiene plays a major role and cleaning procedures are carried out through sterilisation and heavy cleaning chemicals. The product lines Tecotek EU, EP and ES (PSU, PPSU and PESU), Tecotron XS (PPS) and Tecopeek PK (PEEK) provide increased durability for these demanding applications thanks to their chemically resistant nature, while Tecotek EP20 BK224 (PPSU, black) and Tecotek EP20 WH083 (PPSU, white) are high performance solutions for dentist implant boxes owing to high stress-crack resistance. Conductive plastics are critical for medical

components. Formerra has also announced a

separate agreement with GEON Performance Solutions designating it the preferred distributor of Foster medical compounds in Europe, adding to its current distribution agreement covering North and South Americas. Following GEON’s 2025 acquisition of Foster, the agreement builds on Formerra’s long-standing

partnership with GEON for flexible and rigid PVC and filled polypropyl- ene materials. “Bringing Foster’s medical-grade portfolio to Europe strengthens our ability to support healthcare manufacturers across the region with specialised compounds and the local expertise they need to navigate complex regulatory environ- ments,” said Kelly Wessner, Vice President, Key Accounts, Formerra.
