Notebook of mushroom diseases for mushroom growers

roatian consultant Zlatko Vidmar has been working in the mushroom industry for more than 40 years. After studying biology (specialization: mycology), he worked all over the
world, making compost or growing mushrooms. I.a. at Monaghan, Money’s, Franklin, and Costa Group. He has also been doing this in China since 1988, where he now works as a sales manager and technical advisor for Sylvan China in Huai’an, Jangsu province. Vidmar has built up a lot of experience with mushroom pests and diseases and he has used this to publish a booklet - ‘Notebook of mushroom diseases for mushroom growers’ - which provides an overview of the most common pests and diseases and some instructions on how to prevent them. As he indicates in his intro- duction, the three most important rules are the following: ‘1. Hygiene. 2. Hygiene. And finally: 3. Hygiene!’ Each disease or pest described is briefly discussed in terms of its appearance, after which the cause and control measures are explained. The laminated booklet, published by Sylvan counts 64 pages. The layout and photo material could certainly have been better, and the booklet cannot compete with ‘Mushroom Pest and Disease Control’ by Fletcher and Gaze from 2008 (more luxurious, thicker, but also more expensive), but for 40 euros you have with this Notebook a handy and simple overview of the most important diseases and pests to keep close at hand at your farm.
