Sony into crop management
Sony introduces its drone-mounted Smart Agriculture Solution. It allows for daily crop management and monitoring through the capture, collection, and analysis of data in the field without a network connection. It employs sensor fusion and fast stitching technology. The multispectral sensing unit carries a dual sensor camera and a geolo- cation sensor. It can be mounted on a drone to capture NDVI and RGB imagery. Users can generate maps with Fast Field Analyser by stitching captured data using only GPS data. According to Sony, it re- quires less overlapped images. Conse- quently, it increases a single flight’s effi- ciency, enabling drones to gather 300-400 images covering a maximum range of 160 acres. All is conducted in a completely of- fline environment that does not use time consuming cloud processing. Users can take immediate action in the field with accurate analysis results. During its development, Sony cooperated with Syngenta to provide compatibility with Syngenta’s satellite imaging software. Available spring 2019 in the US and Canada.

AccuTurn for Patriot sprayer
The AFS AccuTurn headland-turning tech- nology from Case IH is now available on the high powered Patriot sprayers. This next-generation AFS (Advanced Farming Systems) auto-guidance is compatible with the AFS Pro 700 display. AFS AccuTurn will provide hands-free, automatic and repeata- ble turns for increased productivity for broadacre and pre-emergence applica- tions. With the software from the Case IH autonomous concept vehicle (ACV), Ac- cuTurn is said to help to reduce skips and overlaps, save on fuel and labour costs, simplify operation and – according to the manufacturer – even add hours to the day during critical operating windows. Maxi- mum turn speed capability has been in- creased to optimise performance and effi- ciency in spraying applications. Coupling that with the Patriot series sprayers means operators can count on quick, consistent and accurate application across every piece of ground, says Case IH. “With AccuTurn, operators can seamlessly navigate the tightest turns and reduce inconsistencies seen with manual steering.”

New Wheelman autosteer system
AgJunction launched a new lineup of sim- ple, affordable autosteering systems. Wheelman Pro and Wheelman Flex autos- teering systems start at $ 3,995 (€ 3,500). For that investment the farmer gets everything he needs: install kit, IMU, smart antenna, universal cable. The system re- places the steering wheel with a motorised, GPS-controlled steering system. It has high torque for quick response. Calibration takes 10 minutes with the app AgJunction devel- oped. Also, the Wheelman Flex can be easi- ly moved and used between other equip- ment. The Pro uses a spline design that links to the steering system. Flex uses a kit that attaches to the steering wheel, which is designed to be moved. Both Wheelman versions use the Wide Area Augmentation System for correction. This longtime service is free as a correction signal for the GPS. With Wheelman, it provides 4 to 6 inch ac- curacy consistently. Both systems are pow- ered by the free Whirl app – available for iOS and Android devices. Whirl allows farm- ers to use their existing smart devices (phone, tablet) as the display.
