t factory level, all manufacturers of machines, tractors and software know exactly where they are aiming at. Tractors, machines and software can communicate with each other after a simple push of a button. Likewise, one can therefore easily record field-data and field-operations, and have the business adminis- tration in order all in a jiffy. So far this goal looks great on paper.

Now in practice: it is not as easy as it seems. Meanwhile things are working better, but many tractors and machines

are still not so easy to connect to each other via – for example – Isobus-systems and/or wireless data-communication. And above all: if things do not work, who is willing to solve it? Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers are doing their own thing, instead of working and developing together. Unexpected, but typical for agriculture, is that many problems seem to solve themselves. Take for example Cana- dian farmer Johannes Heupel who developed a kit to transfer data between different tractors and tractor brands (see page 38). Or what about local initiatives where the emphasis is on simplifying and acceler- ating data communication between machines and drones with a wireless 5G-network (page 35). In all cases, the challenge is to keep precision agriculture easy and simple. Only that will accelerate the massive international breakthrough needed for precision agriculture.
