Proagrica’s network for connectivity can redefine supply chain relationships

In July, the Australian Farm Institute Digital Farmers conference took place in Sydney, with a special focus on the role and benefits that the evolving digital landscape will produce for farmers.

A key trend that arose throughout the conference was the slow adoption of agricultural digital solutions by the farming sector, and why so many supply chain businesses aren’t yet offering the full benefits granted by the data revolution.

As an industry, digital integration is long overdue. For everyday farm operations, it’s becoming a necessity and the advantages granted by a digitally connected supply chain are clear:

Quick responses from suppliers that have a firm grasp on their processes

Predict demand and requirement, ensuring stock is at hand when needed

Real-time updates on orders with full tracking

Agronomists that are fully informed and backed by comprehensive farm data

In the past, we have seen a major disconnect in the agriculture supply chain between business solutions, back-end agronomy information, and precision ag tools. Now, as businesses strive to offer improved value to offset the rise of generic providers and online retailers, unified data solutions allow them to extend their offering which, in turn, greatly benefits the end user on-farm.

The processes and infrastructure that drive farm business growth has changed as technology advances at an increasingly rapid rate. The needs of the marketplace have shifted also, due to the rising need to properly manage spending in the face of fluctuating support mechanisms and commodity pricing. Naturally, a significant factor in choosing a supplier is based on

reducing outgoings. But is that the only consideration worth taking?

The digital revolution is making it necessary to rethink the relationship between customer and supplier. Suppliers are now equipped to offer more value than ever to their customers, and it is vital that farms seeking growth capitalise on these new offerings.
