Another safety bill that was introduced

into Congress is the Alyssa’s Legacy Youth in Schools Safety Act (ALYSSA Act), which calls for improved response time to active shooter incidents that occur on school property. The bill was named after Alyssa Alhadeff, a victim of the Stoneman Douglas Shooting in Florida on Feb. 14, 2018. Visit stnonline. com/go/5q to read more. The most recent state to authorize the installation of video cameras on its school buses to catch motorists illegally passing a bus was New York on Aug. 6, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law. That made New York the 20th state in the nation to enact a stop- arm video camera law. A legislator in Kentucky has pre-

filed a similar bill, but it would actually require school bus cameras on all school buses, instead of only autho- rizing school districts to install them. If passed, all school buses there would have to be equipped with stop-arm cameras by Aug. 1, 2023. Visit stnon- line.com/tag/Stop-arm to read more.
