while on routes to our dispatch team, our dispatch and fleet teams are able to locate and track the EV buses to collect more information,” he noted. “That allows us to make the best possible call for the staff and students that are on board.” The data generated is used in ways ranging from supporting daily opera- tions to aiding in reporting and efficiency studies.
“Our transportation staff can track our EV buses while on routes to verify the state of charge at all time, to assist our operational efficiency,” he said. “Also, we’re able to share
data collected from the daily routes for reporting purposes.”
Moving Forward While the types of data provided by
telematics have already proven useful, their impact is likely to increase, predicted David Pearson, Zonar’s senior solutions manager. This may be especially true with charge management. “Real-time data may be even more im-
pactful as numbers of EVs grow,” he said. “When we start scaling up to where it’s not just one or two, or even five or 10, but you’ve got 50 or 100 buses, charge man- agement will really be important.” He is optimistic about future progress
