The system adds Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from a separate tank into the air induction system to displace the diesel. Because of the high altitude (6,500-10,000 feet), displacement of diesel is limited to about 30 percent compared to potentially twice that rate in some locations. But it still brings economy. “Adding diesel displacement systems is the most cost ef-


fective, efficient and reliable way to modernize your fleet,” Abraham said.


Evolving Engines While engine technology may not change as fre-


quently as with other technology, some important advancements are now in the works. One catalyst for change has been the 2024 adoption of the EPA’s GHG Phase 3 final rule, which sets stronger standards for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-du- ty vehicles beginning with model year 2027. While there has been talk from the Trump administration of walking back that standard, the regulation was still be- ing reviewed at this report, OEMs have already made notable progress in developing tech that produces less pollution. At the same time, improvements are being made in a variety of other performance areas. For example, Cummins announced this spring its B7.2 diesel engine, which is expected to bring enhanced performance as well as reduced greenhouse gas emis- sions. It will include multiple changes from the B6.7 to meet
