A Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson said the nation’s second-

largest district learned several lessons throughout its initial school bus electrification process, to prepare for a larger deployment. The spokesperson provided the following recommendations:

• Plan early to ensure there is adequate power available from the utility to serve the size and needs of your fleet.

• Work with your utility to schedule infrastructure installation.

• Develop guidelines and specifications that provide a holistic approach to purchasing electric buses, charging stations and management software.

• Hire an EV consultant/expert to guide you through the planning/design/construction complexities.

• Develop a staging/transition plan. • Consult with EV charging companies.

• Identify lead times necessary to procure equipment, such as the switchgear and transformers.

• Develop a delivery strategy that works best for your project: Design-build, Turnkey or Design-Bid-Build
