some models since 2018. Available technology includes Bendix Wingman Advanced as well as Bendix Wingman Fusion. The former combines adaptive cruise control with braking features, collision mitigation and full-stability technology. The system provides drivers with distance alerts and if needed, will apply brakes to avoid a collision or lessen its impact. When a stalled car or other metallic object is detected, a stationary object alert will provide up to three seconds of warning time. Meanwhile, the Wingman Fusion system includes an over- speed alert and action feature using a camera that is capable of reading most roadside speed limit signs. One of its two levels of customizable alerts includes a one-second dethrottle of the engine to get the driver’s attention. It also offers a combination of video, radar and braking to generate a rapid analysis of the situation at hand, along with the potential for quickly reducing the vehicle’s speed. If a camera becomes inoperable, the system automatically reverts to Wingman Fusion functionality, including collision mitigation. Cody Cox, the director of transportation for the 10,000-student
