Ontario Budget 2019


The PC government is currently working on its fi rst provincial budget and has signaled its in- tention to cut funding for public services. ETFO President Sam Hammond presented


a submission to the legislature’s pre-budget hearings making the case for investment in pub- lic education. Read the submission at etfo.ca. ETFO members are encouraged to contact


their MPP (BuildinBetterSchools.ca/funding) and let them know public education needs in- vestment not cuts.


365 Black Cana- dian Curriculum resource available


The 365 Black Canadian Curriculum is part of a compilation of equity resources for el- ementary educators. These resources, which support Black Canadian history in Ontario schools on a daily basis, include a calendar, pri- mary, junior and intermediate lesson plans, a workshop for staff and a poster. The student worksheets for the curriculum resource are now available in French for the primary, junior and intermediate lesson plans. Welcome to ETFO’s new Deputy General Secretary Bobbi Éthier Taillefer Bobbi holds a Law & Economics Diplôme


TFO welcomes Bobbi Éthier Taillefer into the role of Deputy General Sec- retary. Bobbi is the former General Secretary of The Manitoba Teachers’


Society, where she worked for 21 years. She has been an executive offi cer in bargaining, personnel, Indigenous education, French lan- guage services and staff assigned to principals. Bobbi was a unanimous nominee by labour unions to the Manitoba Labour Board and heard a variety of matters in her two terms on the board. She was a high school and el- ementary French Immersion and Interna- tional Baccalaureate teacher. Bobbi continued her career as a principal in two elementary schools in Winnipeg.


from the Université d’Aix-Marseilles, a Bach- elor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Manitoba, and a Hu- man Resources Certifi cate from Cornell Uni- versity, New York. She is an avid community advocate who has demonstrated her commit- ment to social justice through her work at MTS and as a volunteer in her community. Bobbi is very excited to join ETFO, an orga- nization she had the pleasure of collaborating with her entire career and has always greatly admired.
