Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

October 21, 2025, is the 25th annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) joins Ontarians in recognizing and celebrating child-care workers and early childhood educators (ECEs) for their exceptional contribution to the well-being and development of children.

The theme of this year’s appreciation day is Care Counts, which highlights the importance of care in early learning and of child-care in society, as well as the pride that ECEs and child- care workers take in their work.

Designated early childhood educators (DECEs) are essential to fostering young children’s development and enhancing the overall learning experience of Kindergarten.

Through their expertise in early childhood development, age-appropriate practices, play- and inquiry-based learning, and social-emotional growth, among other key areas, DECEs enhance Kindergarten programs and play a critical role in creating safe and nurturing environments where all children can thrive.

On October 21 and every day, ETFO celebrates our DECE members and their vital contributions to educating our youngest learners.
