Sustainability
We continue to take important steps to integrate sustainability into our everyday working practices and work has continued towards ISO 14001
Panel accreditation.
Recognising the latest reports from the Intergovernmental
on Climate
Change, we signed up to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action framework, which aligns us with the Race to Zero – a challenging net zero target of 2040. This saw us launch the RYA’s Carbon Pathway to Zero. We used online and in-person events to discuss its implications with members, boat users and the marine industry.
There will undoubtedly be obstacles, notably in the areas of ecology and sustainability, but the RYA will increase its activities to encourage all water users to protect the marine environment. The RYA continues
to support The Green Blue and has worked closely with regulatory bodies including the Marine Management Organisation, Natural England and the Environment Agency to balance the needs of boaters and sensitive coastal and inland environments.
Our involvement in the European Boating Association has also seen our team and committee members discussing policy in several areas of sustainability – including underwater noise, air quality and means of propulsion.
