In 2017 Central State University began offering a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education (Ag Ed) degree program, developed in part to meet the increasing need for qualified high school agriculture educators. While the program got off to a great start last year, it became apparent that some outside direction would be beneficial to shape the evolving program.

The School of Agricultural Education and Food Science at Central State University has created an advisory board for its Agricultural


Education (Ag Ed) program, featuring some of the most accomplished experts from the agricultural industry around the state.


expertise from across the entire agricultural and technology spectrum. Collegiate, professional, and advocacy organizations are represented—from meat producers, biodiesel, and forestry, to educators, consultants, and food processors.


The advisory board serves as a reference group to offer further insights and knowledge on issues relating to agricultural education, student recruitment, and industry collaboration. Other relevant topics, such as innovation and sustainability, provide new and wider perspectives.


“The board is as diverse as the agriculture business itself, which is incredibly vast and touches a number of different business, science, and technological disciplines,” says Jon Henry, director, School of Agricultural Education and Food Science.


Members of the newly formed board came from across the country to the University Student Center earlier this year for its first strategic planning meeting, as well as to participate in discussions on issues in agricultural education.
