AQHA Director’s Report
By Kathy M. Patterson AQHA Director
New Qualifying Options Intro- duced for the 2022 Farnam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World The American Quarter
Horse Association is reinstituting qualifying and debuting three op- tions for the 2022 Farnam AQHA
World Championship Show and AQHA Select World Championship Show, pre- sented by Adequan® (polysulfated gly- cosaminoglycan), which will be held at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The qualifying period for open, amateur and Select amateur divisions is August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022. The new qualify- ing requirements were member-driven ini- tiatives and approved by the AQHA Executive Committee after review by both the AQHA Show Council and AQHA Af- filiate Advisory Board. Exhibitors and their American Quarter Horses can now qualify by meeting one of the three fol- lowing requirements: 1. Earn the required number of qualifying points for the desired class during the 2022 Farnam AQHA World and Ade- quan® Select World qualifying period, August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022, and pay the standard entry fee. View the qualifying points. This qualifying achievement will be added to the horse’s permanent AQHA record. 2. Participate in six AQHA-approved events during the 2022 Farnam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World qual- ifying period and pay the standard entry fee, regardless of the number of points earned. Participation credit is earned by horse on a class-by-class basis for the open division and by horse/exhibitor com- bination for both the amateur and Select amateur divisions. AQHA events encom- pass all judge numbers for a particular show or circuit. For example, the Arizona Sun Circuit is considered one event, even though it includes eight sets of points.
This qualifying method will not be added to the horse’s permanent AQHA record. 3. If the requirements outlined above are not met, an American Quarter Horse can still be entered in the show for a signifi- cantly higher entry fee, similar to the hal- ter nomination pilot program that was implemented in 2017 and paused due to the waived qualifying in 2020 and 2021. Open classes will require a $7,500 nomi- nation fee per class, while amateur and Select amateur will require a $5,000 nom- ination fee per class. That money will be added back to the purse in the respective class, as was the case for the halter pilot program. AQHA leadership is in the final
stages of determining the time and loca- tion for the 2022 Nutrena AQHA Level 1 Championships. Details will be published on
AQHA.com in the coming weeks. For more information about the Far-
nam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World, visit

Sale of Awards Recognition Concepts Building AQHA is pleased to announce that
the Awards Recognition Concepts build- ing, located in Amarillo, sold to Toot’n Totum Food Stores on August 11. Toot’n Totum is a privately owned company headquartered in Amarillo, and operates convenience store and franchise food lo- cations throughout the Texas and Okla- homa panhandles, in addition to western New Mexico and southern Kansas. Awards Recognition Concepts, a
wholly owned subsidiary of the American Quarter Horse Association ceased opera- tions on September 30, 2020, to allow AQHA to focus on its core business – being the largest equine breed registry in the world. Since then, AQHA has contin- ued to focus on improvements to opera- tions associated with the Association’s core mission, along with improvements to
member programs and services. Earlier this year, AQHA partnered with MTM Recognition of Oklahoma City. As the of- ficial awards provider for AQHA, MTM provides the prestigious awards associated with AQHA events and programs, from the coveted gold globes and specially de- signed trophies to plaques.
Rule-Change Proposals AQHA members have until Decem-
ber 31, 2021, to submit rule-change pro- posals for the 2022 AQHA Convention. However, if you believe there is a need for a major rule change, we encourage mem- bers to submit items earlier to give Asso- ciation staff and/or committees and councils more time to prepare materials and communicate potential changes be- fore the convention, which is slated for February 25-28 at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Download and complete the rule-change proposal form at
www.aqha.com/aqha-rulebook. Once you have completed the form, please re- turn it via email to
rulechanges@aqha.org. If you prefer, items can also be submitted by mail at: AQHA, ATTN: Shelly Spears P.O. Box 200 Amarillo, TX 79168
