nursed ill and injured barn cats and kittens back to health. She was a lifelong horse- woman, a passion sparked by riding her father’s Percheron mare in the woods sur- rounding their home in Campbellton, NB.

whose smile and exuberance garnered her a large and varied circle of friends and ac- quaintances. She had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humour, and yet was also a force to be reckoned with. An avid animal lover, she often

She then went on to owning her own horses, showing and competing in events such as western speed events, English and Western Pleasure, and also Reining. She was a groom at Woodbine Racetrack for a time in her 20’s, and at the age of 54 took up Breakaway Roping and began competing in rodeos. Mom was a regular presence at Roping Assoc. of Ontario jackpot ropings, and roping clinics, spending many hours helping out and vol- unteering when not competing. Mom loved gardening, crossword

puzzles, music, and dancing. She would often dance around the Livingroom solo, or convince our dad or one of us to join

Please support the EFC with a donation in Eldon’s memory. Your support is much appre- ciated and we know Eldon would be happy to know his friends supported a cause that was so important to him.

From Our Founder

Remembering April 1985

It seems that the year started

well with a very successful Quar- terama ‘85 despite a major bliz- zard that hit the province.

Gina McNaughton of Brace-

bridge, Ontario had her wish of a “Thrill of a Lifetime”a popular TV series come true. Gina asked the show producers to have her ride Windjammer in a barrel race,

Glen and Joanne Morehouse had retired the horse to stud at a facil- ity in Pennsylvania. No problem. The horse was brought back to Ontario and Gina was shocked to know she was entered in the Ab- sorbine race at Quarterama.

The Guelph Centre for

Equine Research launched a cap- ital drive they were looking to fund the new $2.3 Million equine facility.

Meredith Manor, Waverly,

WV hosted the American Farriers Association Certification tests.

Horse Management, a book

from Academic Press was an- nounced. I am sure that after 38

years it is still relevant. The Inaugural Masters

Games, with extreme prejudice and intentional malice excluded Western Events.. go figure.

Gary Ormerod, Chairman,

Harold Mather, Bob Cary Co- Chairs of Quarterama ‘85 did a superb job of managing the show, despite the paralyzing blizzard.

We had quite a few letters our feature article on Mickey Barnier in The Rider. It seems that Mick’s team were happy with the timing of the article appearing in our special Quarterama edition.

Another one of my favourite

Do you love Fergus? Visit his website at: http://www.fergusthehorse.com

Quarter Horses was Tassilo, with a Speed Index of 102 was fea- tured in The Rider. I can’t re- member if the Appendix horse I partnered in went up against him. That was a few decades ago.

WHAO announced their an-

nual Extravaganza horse show at Paris, Fair Grounds on June 21 - 23. Chairman was Greg Faletti, Chief Stewart was Butch Burnett.

Ronzel Farms of

Schomberg, Ontario advertised Quarter Horse stallions at stud from $750.00 to $1,500.00.

Patti Carter had a grand re-

tirement at Quarterama as she of- ficially retired as a youth.

My Turn I had a few comments about

my Remembering column at the recent horse extravaganza in An- caster.

It seems that my an-

nouncement on retiring got some people concerned that my “Look back” column would stop. I will keep it going as long as I can. My remarks about BMO

plagiarizing an American Insur- ance commercial worked. They stopped using it. If BMO or oth- ers want me to review their com- mercials before airing, call me.

Another commercial that

bothers me is the one from OJO. I don’t know what is going on but I regularly press the button and the crazy dressed blond does not show up. I think they are lying. 17 wild horses were shot and

killed in BC. Authorities in New Brunswick are investigating the demise of 14 horses on a farm there. Have we now reached the point of no return for humanity. I am hearing from the

grapevine that Whispering Hearts Rescue in Hagersville are bring- ing back their annual yard sale to raise much needed funds. The event was shut down due to COVID. I am concerned that our PM

may be using the same hair dye as Giuliani. I was just waiting for it to drip down. Natural hair colour for men is good. We recently lost another

Western Pioneer. Toni German recently passed away. Please ac- cept The Riders condolences on the loss of a great horsewoman. Purolator, yes I spelled it

right. I sent a shipment by this il- lustrious government owned business to one of our customers in Saskatchewan. I provided the Bill of Lading with instructions to Invoice the receiver. I also pro- vided their credit card informa-

tion. It seems that one or more of the illiterates at purolator decided to bill me personally. After re- sponding and returning a copy of the BOL they just ignored me. They sent another invoice. I sent another letter and a copy to our customer in Saskatchewan. The dumb lot at purolator can’t read English so I paid the invoice out of my personal account and worked things out with the cus- tomer. So guess what? The idiots

sent me an interest invoice. I wrote to the CEO. It seems he does not know how read as my letter to him was ignored. I am looking forward to going to court.
