Remembering June 1990
Can you believe The Rider
was only 20 years old.. now we are 54. How time flies.
The Rider, aka The West-
ern Rider / Canadian Quarter Horse Journal had a feature length article promoting the Anvil and Iron Horseshoeing competition. It was their second annual event at the Milton Agri- cultural Museum. A quick search of the internet did not re- veal that this event was still in existence.
The Rider reported on an
18 year old Appaloosa brood mare Miss Silver Dust giving birth to twin foals by Appaloosa Stallion Sir Band Jammer. The Buttigieg family of Port Col- bourne, Ontario, were super ex- cited about the births which are rare in the equine world.
Identical twin sisters Holly
and Carrie Robinson of Kincar- dine, Ontario were enjoying giv- ing the judges at run for their money at the Quarter Horse and other shows the judges thought they were seeing double.
Twin Appaloosas and Twin

Circle M Ranch, owned by
Col. Al Greco in Woodbridge, Ontario, were promoting their line of Jamco Horse Trailers and being a distributor for McBride horse trailers.

Canadian Snaffle Bit Associa- tion, was advising that the club was adding more money to the Snaffle bit shows for this year. Bill and Tracy Rinzema, chair- persons for the Futurity, an- nounced a $20,000.00 added purse.
A race horse was used by
the FBI to investigate race-fix- ing at the Finger Lakes Race Track. But the horse they bought to catch the fixers was a natural winner. A trainer and his wife were indicted in connection with the scam.
A new agricultural teach-
ing arena opened in New Liskeard, Ontario. The livestock arena was financed by the New Liskeard College of Agricultural Technology and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture.
The Rider were part of a
Wild West colouring contest fea- turing Black Bart. Art was by renowned artist Maureen Shel- leau. Lots of prizes had been of- fered.
