Requiem For Frosty

This morning was your last, Frosty, and little do we know About the fierce battle you fought to stay so long To keep under your watch a herd now at a loss For a leader, a friend, a shoulder to lean on

To lead and inspire, that really was your call Spirited as you were, kindness you used with all You were a serious horse, and we’ll never forget You, the smartest equine that we have ever met

Brains, looks and grace, Frosty, and more, you had it all As on your back you took your riders, big and small For a stroll, a lesson, you did everything well As your purpose in life was truly to excel

You did excel, Frosty, you became a mentor To others upon whom authority’s vested You showed a way to lead that is always the best By example that is, with total selflessness

Today we mourn, Frosty, as your spirit has gone More than a horse you were – you’d become an icon That now lays motionless on the beloved grounds Where you were loved dearly and loved back without bounds

To own you was to own pride, joy, even some wings To ride you was to fly, was to ride with the wind Now we are left to miss your kind eyes, your hoof beats Knowing only death could take you from your duty

As we write these sad words, some solace comes to mind: You passed with dignity, surrounded by your friends Knowing how much they cared, how they wished you the best And at rest you are now, forever, our mare.
