20th Annual Canadian Reining Classic - Last Hoorah for John and Sharon

By Ashley Janzen On July 28-30th, with weather al-

ternating between extreme heat and pouring rain, John and Sharon Fletcher hosted the Canadian Reining Classic at their home farm in Waterford, Fletcher’s Horse World. Heralded as their “last hoorah”, this show marks the 20th an- nual show, as well as the last they plan to put on. It’s not goodbye! John and Sharon will remain heavily involved in ORHA and NRHA activities, as owners and breeders of quality reining horses - but hosting a show is a lot of work, and they’ve certainly done more than their fair share - it’s time they enjoyed some down time and pass the torch on. On be- half of ORHA, we want to express our immense gratitude to John and Sharon:

L4 Open Futurity Co-Champions Loris Epis and Landon Brown The following foals born in 2021 have been enrolled

into the ORHA Futurity Program and are eligible for showing in the 2-Year-Old Prospects on the Rail class this year.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. 2023 Rapid Aid Futurity Winners: Landon Brown & Tinseltowns Gun A highlight of the Canadian Rein-

ing Classic was the Rapid Aid Futurity, sponsored by Jeff Whitley. This year’s event was nearly swept by 16 year-old Landon Brown and his horse Tinsel- towns Gun! The pair won the Rapid Aid NRHA L1 and L4 Non Pro Futurity, the Rapid Aid NRHA L1 Open Futurity, and tied the Rapid Aid NRHA L4 Open Fu- turity with co-champion Loris Epis on Ladykiller, owned by Kelly Plitz.

attend every show they can, are respon- sible for getting him into horses, and have been his biggest supporters. Tinseltowns Gun - affectionately

known as Rip - is by Tinseltowns Prize, out of Dualin Poco Gun. Landon pur- chased him from Jonathan Newnham as a yearling, immediately feeling some- thing special for the horse with the kind eyes and smooth movement. Landon is a fan of his friend Peter

Knelsen’s training program, so putting Rip with Peter was a big part of Landon’s plan for the horse. Landon and Peter broke him out together, and then Peter managed his training since then, and coaches Landon when he rides.

Their first time in

Landon Brown and Tinsletowns Gun Landon lives in Acton, where he

works at Flowershed Farms. He also works at Sharpe Farm Supplies in Mof- fat, and attends Christ the King Catholic Secondary School in Georgetown. His grandparents, Bruce and Vickie Brown,

the show pen - in the 2 Year- Old Pleasure Class at the 2022 ORHA Futurity - had Rip placing dead last, and Landon feeling discouraged. Jonathan Newnham caught Landon on his way out of the pen with some prophetic words: telling Landon not to

worry, because Rip’s time would come in his 3 year old year. He sure was right! Peter worked hard with Rip over

the next year, and Landon thinks one key element to his training was being hauled out to barrel racing events over the winter for exposure, so he now

comes out and goes right to work - no looking or spooking. Both Peter and Landon showed Rip for the first time in 2023 at the ORHA Spring Thaw, with optimistic scores of 71 and 69 ½ in the Green Horse. When Landon showed Rip in the Rapid Aid Futurity,

he felt it was the best ride of his life, not only because of their winning scores, but also because of the way Rip waited on and was tuned in to his rider, showing off some impressive turns and stops - which Landon feels are his best maneuvres. Congratulations, Landon and Rip! Best of luck to this

pair as they look to repeat their performance at the Michi- gan Memorial Futurity, and again at the ORHA Futurity in September.
