Robin ten Pas - 1965 - 2023
Saturday July 29th. Robin lived life to the
fullest and truly lived by the motto “Live like you are dying”. There were so many
It is with great sadness
that we announce the sud- den and unexpected passing of the very loved Robin ten Pas of Drumbo, Ontario on

Remembering August 1990 Well we made it to year 53..
with the same owners since day one. Some of the hot shot dailies are always scrounging for new owners to take over a dying in- dustry. Anyway this summer has
been far too hot and rainy. The professors and weather gurus have been warning us of this sit- uation. Nothing has really been accomplished. We had an article by Ted
Pressley who was advising how hard the temperature in Texas in excess of 100 F was on livestock. Today the whole world is in heat stress. Has the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” arrived?
We had a feature story on Lyme Disease: “Little Risk to
‘hats’ that Robin wore. He was the most loving hus- band and best friend to Ellie Ross. The most caring and protective father of Tyler ten Pas (Kayla) and his brothers Aaron Kowall and Colton Kowall (Brittny Martin) all of Kitchener. The big brother to his sister Lee Bin- gley (Harold) of Brampton and his brother Lindsay ten Pas (Kellie Lee Fenner) of British Columbia. He loved being ‘Poppa’ to his grand- children, Maeve, Carter, Addy, Royce and Atlas. Robin is predeceased by his parents, known best as Gigi and Poppa.
Considered a favourite
Uncle to Hailey, Nathan, Caelan and Skye. Robin was also a true
horseman. He was raised with horses and could liter- ally jump on any horse with no saddle or bridle and ride it like a pro. As a child he was known to ride his pony to school bareback. As an adult he was well known on the RAM Rodeo circuit and even won a Roping Cham- pionship in the very compet- itive circuit in Texas. His recent years with horses were spent with many hours and miles in the saddle, trail riding and horsing around with a large group of friends. One of the most mem-
orable hats Robin wore was that of the Chef. Robin loved to research new
Canadians”. That was in August 1990. How wrong that story turned out to be.
The sixth Canadian Car-
riage Driving Classic was held at Tralee Veterinary Centre in Cale- don Hills. They provide large an- imal services. Marion Hawley of Oakville drove her Quarter Horse “Buddy Hawley” in a two wheeled carriage class. In Ireland they are known as Jaunting Carts.
On May 24, twenty students
from Kemptville College gradu- ated from the Equestrian Pro- gram. The students were pleased with the courses offered. Most said they had gained employment in the horse industry.
Researchers at the Univer-
sity of California, Davis School of Medicine developed a new treatment for uterine infection in horses.
Kelly Smith, president of
the Ontario Amateur Quarter Horse Association, was submit- ting interesting news about the
recipes and cooking styles. He thoroughly enjoyed serv- ing up meals that always had everyone in awe. He made his meals with love and it showed. The highlight of his week was planning family dinners on Sundays, Holidays, Special days etc. He always held hands and said grace with the most thoughtful and grateful words before each meal. Another hat he wore
was his motorcycle helmet. Robin was an expert on a bike whether it was a KTM dirt bike, a big loud Harley or his recent purchase of a KTM 890 Adventure Bike. His last day on earth was en- joyed on that motorcycle visiting friends and prepar- ing for a trip with his close friends Michael and Steve to ride around Newfoundland
club and its activities. The Empire State Quarter
Horse Association sent in a report on the American Horse Council annual meeting in Washington DC.
The Ontario Barrel Racing
Association announced that their Futurity would be held at the Milton Fall Fair on September 22.
Marlene McNichol was
keeping us informed of the activ- ities in the Ontario Racing Own- ers of Ontario. She reported that four futurities were run on June 24th with purses exceeding $38,000.00.
The Royal Horse Show was
scheduled for November 6 – 17 at the Coliseum in Toronto. Back in the day the show had a long waiting list for booths, today not so! The show over the past 100 years is just a shadow of former self. No advertising in The Rider these days does not bode well for this show.

The WHAO were bemoan-
ing the fact that in four months it will be Christmas, but they still had a lot of shows to deal with. The WHAO was a great associa- tion, spawning several horse or- ganizations. I remember being at the WHAO banquets where many of the small associations

shared Robin’s pas- sion for flying and he served as a direc- tor on their board. Robin was a dedi- cated member at Lu- bitz Airfield where he enjoyed flying his plane and paraglid- ing but also Saturday morning breakfasts. He was working dili- gently to rebuild his airplane and it was incredible to see how many people shared their time, knowledge and resources to help with that project. Robin truly loved to fly and he now has a new set of wings in heaven. All who were lucky
enough to know Robin, Wahl were marketing a new

Absorbine were promoting
their Show Sheen in The Rider. Not to be accused of favouring one breed over another several were included in there ads such as a Paint, Appaloosa and a Quar- ter Horse.
Lufthansa Cargo had an-

The CO-OP were pushing their new horse feed “ Equijet”.
George Sanders was adver-
tising 18 stalls at $600.00 each but you had to go to New Brunswick to get them.
Timber Trail Western Rid-
ers were well into their regular trail rides. Overnight rides were well attended. President Art Wright was very pleased with the turn out of riders.
The International Arabian
Horse Association were celebrat- ing their 40th Anniversary. The theme was to make the horse world aware that 7/8 th’s of all horses are decedents of the Ara- bian.
Ford were advertising their
new lineup of compact diesel tractors.

My Turn It seems that this summer’s
heat has put a damper of some horse shows. Some have reported that entries were down due to the heat and rain. We are hoping that the fall shows and fairs have good entries. I don’t have much to gripe
about this issue, but you are wel- come to send your beefs to me. Just remember you and you
alone are responsible to report child, elder, spousal and animal abuse. Thanks for looking down in
this corner. Aidan W. Finn CD Founder of The Rider 1970

Letter to the Editor: Oxford Trail Riders
Howdy; Another riding club has hung up their spurs. After 68 years
of horse shows, trail rides and pain horsing around, the Oxford Trail Riders have decided it’s time to go out to pasture. They had a supper at the Carriage House in Tillsonburg where numerous pic- tures were shown and some of their old members were present. Lots of laughs and memories were shared. We hope other clubs will keep going so young people can come out, have fun and show their horses and to those people hosting shows, like Max and Marg Albright did form over 60 years. Come out and have fun. Happy Trails
