Q1
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB
My first job when I left school was working as an apprentice wall and floor tiler for a local tiler in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. I was shown how to mix a bucket of adhesive and given a box of Pilkington dust pressed skirting tiles. The advice given was spread the adhesive, keep them lined up and move quick before the bucket sets!
Q2 Q3
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TILE/
STONE INDUSTRY? My mother was the design manager at a local tile company in Armagh and I was always around tile stores, new trends in tiling, adhesive brands, tile fitting systems, etc. I decided that a becoming a tiler was a natural progression for me - a tiler gets into a project when construction is nearly complete and would be warm clean.

MOST ADMIRE? I admire a guy called David Goggins, an American ultramarathon runner. He is a down-to-earth guy

As well as my role as a lecturer at Southern Regional College, I am a training manager for WorldSkills UK, training apprentices for the global competition WorldSkills, and lead judge for the national competition in Wall and Floor Tiling which is run in partnership between CITB and WorldSkills UK. I am always looking for new innovations in tiling that will give us an edge at competitions and I would like a laser level that could project the level and plumb lines simultaneously for every row of vertical and horizontal tiles in a grid formation.
