The six months from October 2019 – September 2020 saw a big shift in consumers looking to improve their homes with tile products.
All in all, 40% more people were making tile-related searches.
There has been a curious shift in consumers looking for ‘how-to tile’ guides. In other words, looking to do DIY.
This then raised the question of whether there has been a change in searches for professional tradesman?
Surely, if there has been an uptick in attempting DIY, there will have been an affect.
I found that ‘tradesmen nearby’ type searches had surged +1047%. That is crazy.
Now, if we compare the trends between the two, we reveal something very interesting.
The research revealed that searches for DIY tiling how-to guides are up 22% YoY, with searches for skilled tilers rocketing by 1047% YoY. Between June and July, the upward trend for DIY searches switched to ‘tradesman near me’ searches.
This paints a fascinating picture of consumer behaviour. It shows people being human- giving up.
When the option for an out was given with lockdown restrictions easing, people quickly put down their tile scrapers and called the professionals.
