NATURAL STONE ALL NATURAL

There are several things to keep in mind when choosing natural stone, as Topps Tiles’ Brand Communications Manager and sTile Consultant, Harriet Goodacre, explains.

When looking to add an air of luxury to a space, natural stone tiles are a perfect choice. The category covers a swathe of materials and the individuality of stone means you will find distinct and unique patterns in every tile.

Natural stone can be used to create a variety of styles depending on what the objective is for the space, from countryside chic to contemporary. While natural stone tiles can be an investment, they provide timeless style that can align with both current trends and those to come in the future.

Even in the smallest of spaces, adding natural stone can create a huge amount of depth and openness. Using larger tiles can give the appearance of a bigger space and modular tiles do this without the need for too much cutting. Our Amazone Grey Modular tile adds an element of depth provided by the subtle grey tumbled limestone. When paired alongside natural wood, it creates a rustic look full of texture as the two materials bring out the individual traits in the other.

One of the most iconic kinds of natural stone is white marble, which is currently seeing huge popularity in bathroom interiors. The striking veins that run across the tiles have an irreplaceable style and give the perfect backdrop for a clean and contemporary living space. The Arabescato range is smooth and highly polished, making it a standout example of traditional Italian marble.

While the classic Italian marble is the most famous, the stone is a varied material with different colours and finishes. For instance, the Kowloon Polished Marble still provides the drama associated with marble thanks to its bold veining, but the stormy greys and whites in the stone really bring the tile to life. Combining this with other luxury fixtures, such as brushed brass and ornate lighting, creates a style full of class and character.

For those who want a look that will really stand out, green marble provides a profound and dramatic appearance that is practically unachievable with another material. The Emerale tile features heavy veining and a deep emerald green that is guaranteed to turn heads in any room it is featured in. This look can be built upon with light neutral shades to really bring out the spectacle in these tiles.

Since every stone is unique, we always recommend laying out the tiles before fixing to ensure you get a good mix of shades across the area. The online visualiser tool available on our brand-new website can provide a good indication of what the stone will look like in a space. It also allows you to switch between the different sizes of stone so you can see the difference size makes.

Natural stone tiles are exceptionally durable and a clever way to invest in a project, but they do require some additional care and consideration to ensure they maintain their quality and long-lasting appeal.

Natural stone looks amazing in bathrooms, bringing elegance and opulence to the space. However, natural stone is porous and not usually considered the choice in areas with considerable water use. This can be remedied by ensuring the tiles are sealed correctly, this also helps to protect them from staining and grime.

Once the tiles have been sealed properly, it’s important to use a PH neutral cleaner to care for the natural stone to keep them perfectly robust, as acidic cleaners can damage the life of the sealant. Also, when cleaning them we recommend to buff dry the tiles with a clean cloth to ensure no unsightly water marks remain.

We’ve recently simplified our natural stone offering, consisting of six categories: limestone, marble, travertine, slate, granite and split face. It’s easy to understand the unique characteristics of each stone and what different looks they offer. We’ve also streamlined the amount of products we offer within each category, providing stylish tiles of the highest quality. You can view our entire collection on our new website, which has a whole section dedicated to natural stone.
