BATHROOMS & KITCHENS MAKING A

The Cevisama fair, held in Valencia each February, is seen by the global design community as a glimpse of the kitchen and bathroom design

VOLUMETRIC VARIETY ►

Often used by designers who want to add interest to a room without having to rely on pattern or colour, volumetric surfaces are a simple solution to creating drama in a kitchen or bathroom and are typically offered in neutrals such as white, beige, grey and black. As 3D tiles are an increasingly widespread trend, Spanish manufacturers are coming up with ever more eclectic designs and this year’s show was particularly notable for examples that cleverly combine geometry and volume to dramatic effect. There was also a greater quantity of relief tiles in intriguing colour palettes such as clay, rose or blue.

El Molino’s Soften range features fauna and is offered as a relief décor or a co-ordinating smooth tile.

◄ SHADES OF BLUE www.roca.es

Blue is always a popular colour for bathrooms and kitchens as it is an easy colour to live with and as water is a key element in the function of these spaces has a genuine relevance. Luscious blue marble-effects were to be seen everywhere at Cevisama and must be this year’s most dominant trend. Rather than a sign of all-round popularity, brands vied with each other to display their mastery of digital printing techniques presenting watery shades. Blues in every hue from dark and inky to pale and cloud-like were offered in every format imaginable and this celebration of blue extended beyond marble-effects to all types of décor tile.

Blue marble-effects such as this design by Roca are a key look of the season.

Vives’s Pop Tile Collection takes inspiration from the Sixties and Seventies. SEVENTIES REVIVAL ►

Pop Art, the fantastic curvy furniture of the late 60s and early 70s and the large surface patterns of fabrics and textiles of that era have influenced many of this season’s most exciting décor ranges. These striking designs can give a bathroom or kitchen splashback a very distinctive look with their typical colour palette of brown, ochre and green offering a cosy, retro feel.
