Hello and welcome to the March issue of Tomorrow’s Health and Safety. The International Labour Organisations (ILO) estimates that deaths from
work-related accidents or diseases total 7,600 each day. This translates to
over 2.78 million people every year. To tackle this huge issue, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has been working on a standard that replaces the existing OHSAS 18001 since 2013.
This month, the ISO 45001 was published and therefore becomes the new international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S). In short, the publication, developed by a committee of occupational health and safety
experts, provides a framework to reduce workplace risks, create safer working conditions in global supply chains and improve overall employee safety.
We have a great issue lined up this month. For our spotlight on Emergency Evacuations, Track 24 looks at how businesses can best go about providing a duty of care to their employees and Tensator suggests ways of moving people
to an area of safety without injuring them further. In Fire and Electrical Safety, Allegion UK asks whether your fire safety training is up to date and Honeywell considers what a robust fire safety system actually is and how employers might implement them in their building.
We also delve into the increasingly important world of Mental Health & Stress
and the impact it can have on workforces around the world. Such is the scale of the issue at hand, we have two leading figures in the industry, Chief Executive
of British Safety Council and President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), talking to us about how we can tackle individual mental health issues in the workplace and what resources are available to assist organisations in the process.
