NEW ZEALAND COMPANY UTILISING RECYCLED CONTENT FOR BIN


PRODUCTION Method has announced that the black components of its bins now include at least 50% recycled materials.


The Wellington-based company design and manufacture visually- appealing recycling bins for the modern workplace.


After its success in NZ, it now sells bins around the world, helping some of the world’s most influential organisations to recycle more, and waste less.


At its core, Method believes in facilitating the circular economy, and the introduction of 50% recycled content is a small but important step in the organisation’s journey.


Introducing recycled content isn’t


as easy as often perceived because materials are highly varied by nature. Method’s in-house sustainability and research and design (R&D) teams have been working continuously to find a material of consistent quality and sufficient supply that can be used in the manufacturing process of their signature bins.


The company made it a priority to ensure that when incorporating recycled materials, the bins are still fully recyclable at the end of their lives, and the materials are able to be used at the same level, otherwise the process is only effective in the short- term. Often, products made from recycled materials can’t be recycled again, delaying their fate in a landfill.


This means that Method’s bins are as attractive and durable with the recycled content as they were when made from virgin materials. Importantly, they can be completely


recycled and made into new bins at the end of their lives.


The considered integration of recycled materials into Method’s bins is evidence that manufacturers have the ability to collect and reuse recyclables to make a real difference.


Particularly in Method’s case, it is a powerful message to see the recyclables the bins collect transformed into new bins.


Method are currently working on a solution that means their bins can be sustainably made from 100% recycled materials. There are exciting developments happening in New Zealand around post-consumer recycled polypropylene and they hope to announce further information on that in the future once infrastructure and supply are ratified.

CALBARRIE SEALS PAT DEAL


AT HINKLEY POINT B Calbarrie Compliance Services Ltd has been awarded the annual portable appliance testing (PAT) service at EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point B nuclear power station.


The contract, which was awarded by ENGIE Workplace Solutions in January, will see the electrical

compliance specialist test around 23,000 PATs annually.


Calbarrie provides a range of electrical compliance services across the UK and employs over 100 engineers nationwide. The portable appliance testing services at Hinkley Point B will be delivered by a qualified team of Calbarrie engineers who are based in the south west. They have demonstrated their ability to meet the rigorous safety, security and


environmental standards required by the contract.


Tim Beardsmore, Calbarrie’s Commercial Director said: “Our engineers have been deployed from the Bristol area to carry out the PATs at Hinkley Point B. They are a highly skilled team with experience of working on challenging and secure sites.”
