TRANSFORMATIVE ILLUMINATION AT TÜBINGEN
PUBLIC LIBRARY In a visionary project, TRILUX and Oktalite have left an indelible mark on the newly refurbished Tübingen Public Library, Germany, turning its 500 square meters into a haven of modernity and innovation through cutting-edge lighting solutions. The project showcases a fusion of interior and exterior lighting expertise, drawing from the impressive portfolios of TRILUX and Oktalite.
Core task: Bookshelves and reading tables
The municipal library, boasting a collection of around 150,000 media and serving approximately 1,000 daily visitors, underwent a comprehensive transformation during the renovation. Focused on delivering exceptional lighting solutions, the project prioritised the illumination of traditional bookshelves and designated reading areas. The E-LINE NEXT LED system in black takes centre stage, ensuring well-lit bookshelves and optimal reading conditions. This sophisticated strip light complies with UGR19 and CRI 80 standards,
embodying a commitment to both functionality and aesthetics.
In a class of its own: The lounge area
In communal spaces, lighting played a dual role – contributing to the overall design while enhancing functionality. The Much Moon pendant luminaire and
B.VEO TRACK spotlight from the Oktalite Retail range were strategically selected to create a captivating lounge ambience. The combination of these luminaires not only adds an
aesthetic dimension to the library but also enhances the functionality of the lounge area.
Holistic: Exterior and entrance area
The visionary lighting scheme extended beyond the library's interior to include the exterior façade. Two SKEO Q wall luminaires, flanking the entrance door, cast an enchanting glow upon the façade. Complementing this, the FINEA light channel in the striking ‘Mikado’ configuration transforms the entrance into a masterpiece of contemporary artistry, providing exceptional illumination and an expression of quality and creativity.
Smart: Lighting management for more sustainability
The lighting system integrates smart technology to enhance sustainability beyond aesthetics and functionality. All luminaires are networked, and sensors for light management have been seamlessly integrated to optimise energy consumption. This innovative approach enables the library to effectively harness natural daylight through its large windows.
The Tübingen Public Library sets new benchmarks in lighting quality, ambience, and sustainability, transforming the library visit into an exceptionally appealing and eco- conscious experience.
