FOR THE ‘NEW NORMAL’ Within the workplace, the ‘new normal’ has arrived. COVID-19 inductions abound, with adherence to a new way of working under the pandemic and all that brings: social distancing, PPE, hand sanitisers, and additional safe working procedures.


Once digested and fully understood, it’s back to the day job of working under a new normal. That means maintaining plant and equipment, managing systems, processes, staff and visitors to site, all through the prism of good health and safety management, HSG 65 and the ‘Hierarchy of Risk’.

For a Dutyholder working under the new normal, statutory inspections must continue to be undertaken in order to satisfy the requirements of both the HSE and the insurer.

Mitie is to merge with Interserve Support Services in an agreement worth £271m, comprising £120m in cash and a 23.4% shareholding in Mitie to be held by or on behalf of Interserve’s shareholders.


Interserve Support Services is comprised of the company’s facilities management operations in the UK and overseas across both public and private sectors.


In financial results published alongside the announcement, Mitie’s

revenue during lockdown in April and May was down just 12%, significantly less than the company feared.


Mitie CEO Phil Bentley said: “Mitie has delivered another year of solid results making good progress against our strategy.


“We are pleased to have signed a sale and purchase agreement to acquire Interserve’s Facilities Management. This will be a transformative acquisition, expanding the scale and footprint of our business to create the UK’s
