Hello and welcome to the December issue of Tomorrow’s FM.
As some of us get ready to put our feet up over Christmas and enjoy a well- earned rest, the hospitality industry is gearing up for its busiest time of the year. It seems fitting then that we have a spotlight feature on Hotels & Hospitality this month. According to the British Chambers of Commerce, 79% of hospitality businesses are experiencing hiring difficulties, making it the worst hit sector in the UK. In their feature this month, Softbank Robotics highlight how this, alongside inflationary pressures, has left hotels and restaurants with very little margin for error. Time then, the company argues, for companies within the sector to cautiously and methodically integrate robots and other AI-based technologies into their operations to help deliver an overall better service. You can check out the company's full opinion on page 50.

In what has proven to be a very popular feature in the past, our focus on Leisure & Retail Facilities also provides some quality content this month. Jamie Allam, CEO of Amthal Group, explores how the role of FMs is evolving into a much more complex and diverse position in the retail industry. FMs are increasingly pulled in to assist other offices and senior management, including in the realm of security, against a persistent increase in crime. Meanwhile, Pinnacle Systems highlights how, with some careful planning and integration capability, it is possible to set up a strong facilities management security plan and stay one step ahead of offenders.
This issue also sees Technology, CAFM & IT and Design & Interiors in focus, as well as all of our regular features. On behalf of the Tomorrow’s FM team, we wish all our readers a relaxing and well-deserved Christmas break, and a very happy New Year.
