WITH COMPLIANCE Keeping the NHS clean and preventing infection is a responsibility for all hospital staff - from the Chief Executive to the healthcare cleaner. It is important to help keep patients, visitors, the public and staff healthy.


The National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021 apply to all healthcare environments, and seek to set a framework for all healthcare staff to improve cleanliness and their infection prevention efforts. All healthcare settings that are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) should now be fully versed and compliant with National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, which came into force last April.


Section 2 of the standard, outlines the general principles and definitions of cleaning and disinfection for better understanding and its implementation.


Our technology is used across Europe in different healthcare environments and over a thousand machines are in use across NHS hospitals currently. Aligning our goals with these principles provides cleaning staff with the correct tools to help comply to these standards.


When discussing the choice of cleaning/disinfection agent [2.2], staff should know “how to make up and cleaning/disinfecting solutions… trained in how to prepare any disinfectants safely… and know how to dispose of it safely.”


Our range of steam cleaners are powered by Dry Steam Vapour technology, which removes reliance on harsh chemicals for disinfection. Superheated tap water, delivered at anywhere between 4 and 9 Bar is effective to achieve a greater than 5-log reduction against enveloped viruses (like Covid 19).


According to the Standards section 2.3, “a disinfectant must be in contact with a surface for a specified time and the surface needs to remain wet for that time… Products with realistic contact times for use in a busy healthcare environment should be selected.”


This is where dry steam vapour comes to fore as it needs minimal contact time on ‘visibly clean’ surfaces - simply a steady pass of dry steam. Thicker patchers of dirt and grime requires slightly longer direct steaming and physical agitation. Once these patches are removed the surface is disinfected.


Care needs to be taken to avoid cross contamination and transference. Cleaning solutions themselves will only be active when on the surface, during use they need to be constantly reapplied and any soiled cloths or mops will need frequent replacement too, to achieve a cleaning result and prevent transfer of micro-organisms from one surface to the next.


Our machines are designed with healthcare environments in mind – integral wet and dry water filtration systems capture particles to HEPA levels – at least 99.97%, down to at least 0.03 microns. Ensuring microbial pathogens are safely removed from any surface.
