TRANSPORT & MOBILITY

“Te Olympian instantly gave us freedom and

choice. We go to music festivals, shopping, sight-

seeing, on holidays and day trips.”

years to get over what I saw and it still haunts me to this day. But, I’ve made sure I’ve lived a full life ever since and I wasn’t going to let my reduced mobility stop me doing what I want. Thanks to the new Autochair Olympian hoist, Bett and I have the freedom to travel wherever we want to go again. And that is absolutely priceless.”

A PICTURE

PERFECT FUTURE Since being diagnosed with Emphysema, Michael Lynch, 77, of Herefordshire, has used a scooter to get around. Thanks to a new hoist from Autochair, he has regained a sense of independence and plans to rediscover his love of painting.

Michael said: “I had been using a scooter for so long the staff at my local supermarket greeted me at my vehicle to help get the scooter out of my car. It was very good of them but I longed to be more independent.

“I also live in a very rural village which is a lovely place but surrounded by stiles on all the nearby footpaths so I couldn’t get very far on my scooter without being obstructed.

“I decided to look into ways of becoming more independent and making it easier

for me to get out and about beyond the confines of my village. I plumped for a hoist from Autochair and I’m now looking forward to expanding my horizons again.”

Michael’s love for painting flourished during his time in military service where he was encouraged to develop his hobbies whilst at base camp.

“My passion was for painting and sculpting and, when my time in the armed forces came to an end, my education officer urged me to follow my dreams and so I went to art school and got a fine art degree.

“I made an enjoyable living from my painting and, now that I have the freedom my new hoist has given me, I’m excited about exploring the beautiful countryside around me and indulging in some landscape painting.

“My car is only small but I love it and didn’t want to have to change my vehicle. But I can comfortably fit the hoist in the boot as it folds away neatly. Now I’m really looking forward to the summer months and getting my easel and and paints out to create some pictures to leave for my daughter as all my other works have been sold over the years,” continued Michael.

Michael chose an Autochair mini-hoist which is ideal for smaller cars with touch-button remote control which still leaves space in the boot when not in use and makes light work of manoeuvring scooters up to 80kg in and out of boots.

“The assistants at the supermarket still come to greet me at the car but now they’re coming to admire my new hoist rather than shift the scooter,” added Michael.
