Editor’s Voice

Hello and welcome to the February/March issue of Tomorrow’s Care- our first of the new year!

What a 12 months it’s been! This time last year, the ‘C word’ was lingering in the air and there was a lot of speculation about the months to come, but I don’t think anything could have prepared us for the disruption and loss that followed. Although the conditions of the current national lockdown may feel similar to March 2020, we are now in a very different position and the recent news that all care homes in England have been offered the COVID-19 vaccine is a huge positive step forwards for the sector.

Over the past few months, we have been delighted to see so many stories of care staff and residents receiving their COVID-19 vaccine so we thought it was only fitting to share some of our favourites. In our news section, you’ll find a roundup of vaccination experiences across the country, including that of a 102-year-old who has lived through two global pandemics.

One thing that has proved a vital solution throughout this pandemic is technology. In this issue, we have an extensive Technology & Soſtware section, with articles delving into a wide range of topics. Commenting on the news of the vaccine, Kajima’s Jitesh Patel discusses why technology is vital in the efforts to reduce pressures on the care sector in the long term. We also hear from Kathy Roberts, Chair of the Care Provider Alliance, on the importance of ensuring mental health care staff and service-users have the skills and equipment to access online services.

Elsewhere in the issue, we have focuses on Training & Education, Dementia Care and Leisure & Entertainment. We’re also delighted to announce that law firm Keebles will once again be offering their insight in every issue this year. Turn to page to 28, where Partner Catherine Wilson discusses what new employment laws brought in by Brexit mean for the care sector.

I hope you enjoy the read!
