OXIVIR EXCEL Diversey

Oxivir Excel from Diversey is a unique and fast-acting cleaner- disinfectant that offers care homes powerful broad-spectrum performance against a wide range of infections and micro-organisms including bacteria, viruses and yeasts in a single product. It can replace general surface cleaning products for daily tasks to provide affordable ongoing infection protection.

The formulation contains patented Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide (AHP). This is a blend of commonly used, safe ingredients and low levels of hydrogen peroxide that dramatically increases potency and cleaning performance.

Oxivir Excel is safe to use on non-invasive medical devices. In addition to being an excellent cleaner, it is fully bactericidal against multi-drug resistant organisms including MRSA, VRE and CRE. It is also fully viricidal against non-enveloped and enveloped viruses such as Poliovirus, Adenovirus, Murine norovirus, HIV, HBV, HCV, Influenza, Vaccinia virus, and Coronavirus. It is yeasticidal against Candida albicans.

Oxivir Excel is suitable for a wide range of applications. The AHP breaks down to water and oxygen shortly aſter use without leaving residues or stains or producing any potential respiratory irritants. This means it can be used safely with reduced risk to residents, visitors and staff, as well as surfaces being cleaned or the environment.

The combined cleaning and disinfection action of Oxivir Excel removes limescale, and residual soils that could provide a food source for bacteria to re-colonise. It can also contain and remove bodily fluid spillages. There is no risk of creating resistance in pathogens because of the way AHP destroys viruses and bacteria.

RECOMED

RecoMed is a PVC medical devices take-back scheme recognised for its innovative approach to sustainable healthcare recycling.

The UK-wide scheme is run by project partners Axion Consulting, a resource recovery specialist, and the British Plastics Federation (BPF). Set up in 2014, RecoMed supplies recycling containers, communication materials and collections to participating NHS and private hospitals.

Funded by VinylPlus, the voluntary commitment to sustainable development by the European PVC industry, the scheme provides an alternative, sustainable disposal route for waste medical items made from high-quality medical grade PVC. This material has been recycled back into new goods, such as horticultural products, by specialist recyclers.

It is estimated that up to 2,250 tonnes of PVC could be recycled by collecting items, such as anaesthetic facemasks, oxygen masks and associated tubing, from UK hospitals. Participating hospitals save money on waste disposal costs by recycling non-infectious PVC medical items instead of sending them to clinical waste streams which are either incinerated or sent to specialist landfill sites.
