WHAT’S NEW?
Sing for Your Life is a registered charity which supports the health and wellbeing of older people using participatory singing activities. As part of its work, the charity provided a system known as the Silver Song Music Box to various placements including residential care and nursing homes, hospitals and community centres.
The Silver Song Music Box system has proved very successful in group settings - care homes, hospital dementia units, dementia cafes – but does not reach older people living alone or with family.
NEW MEMORY BOX SYSTEM LAUNCHED TO COMBAT
LONELINESS As the population of older people increases and the pressure on the care sector grows, more and more elderly people are living alone and becoming socially isolated. Social isolation and loneliness can lead to serious health problems and even admissions to hospital.
NICE have recently published Quality Standard QS184 which highlights the benefits of non-medical interventions– to stimulate memory and reduce social isolation and loneliness. Such stimulants include music, singing, and gardening.
TRUVOX EXTENDS MULTIWASH RANGE TO REDUCE
CONTAMINATION RISK Global floorcare manufacturer and supplier Truvox International has extended its popular and versatile Multiwash scrubber dryer range with the launch of new coloured brushes.
Compliant with the NHS national colour coding scheme for hospital cleaning materials and equipment, they help to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

To meet this need, Sing For Your Life has developed the Silver Song Memory Box.
This enables family and friends to use smart technology to create a personal album of photographs of memorable events – holidays, weddings, christenings, reunions, etc, accompanied by music popular at the time of the events. The completed montage of photographs and music is viewed on the television.
The combination of images and music stimulates the release of endorphins which restores memory and comprehension, thereby reducing loneliness and social isolation.
