TECHNOLOGY IN CARE Transformations

Whilst funding and growing demographic pressures have been a huge challenge to social care over the last decade, the application of technology has delivered significant improvements in care and workforce efficiency for care providers and commissioners of care.
In our experience, there has always been a clear appetite for technology and digital solutions in social care. Providers and commissioners are looking for opportunities to use technology to improve services and to help them effectively manage the funding and long-term demographic pressures that the social care system is under.
Any issues that arise are oſten around ‘how’ best to implement these solutions. Successfully introducing technology is as much about managing change as it is installing the hardware and soſtware itself. Social care has led the way in successfully utilising technology as the NHS has struggled to implement large-scale digitisation programmes.
Key barriers to successful digital transformation include tight budgets, the workforce constraints that care organisations face, attitudes towards risk, and the relationships that exist between care providers and their key stakeholders. However, many of these barriers can be significantly mitigated through taking a long-term view and by treating digital projects as business
change projects, not IT projects- a process that we have supported hundreds of organisations through over the years, to enable successful implementation of our soſtware.
The benefits of such solutions are clear to see. Our first soſtware solution was CM (then CM2000) which started as a simple time-recording solution geared towards transparency of care delivery and minimising costs such as travel time, whilst maximising workforce capacity. This quickly developed into a fully integrated care monitoring, scheduling and financial management solution that has been proven to work even in fast-changing, high-pressure environments, such as rapid response and reablement.
With the focus shiſt in recent years from efficiency to enhanced quality and outcome-based commissioning, our soſtware solutions have continued to evolve. Digital care planning and engaging the full circle of support has allowed providers and commissioners to gather and translate data to enable the delivery of higher quality care.
