Variety of GBAC STAR Facility

Accreditations achieved The Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, along with dozens of other facilities around the globe have achieved GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation.

With a total internal floor area of 5.9m square feet, the Dubai Mall welcomes more than 80m visitors each year and is currently undergoing a massive expansion, paving the way to welcome over 100m visitors.

The accreditation comes from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of the worldwide cleaning industry association, ISSA. As the program is designed for facilities of all sizes and types, it has also been adopted by stadiums and arenas, restaurants, corporate locations, and more.

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport in Texas also became the first airport in the world to earn the accreditation, along with Palm Beach International Airport in Florida and John Glenn Columbus International Aiport in Ohio.

Other locations to achieve accreditation include dozens of Hyatt locations worldwide, multiple stadiums and convention centres, numerous high-end and independent hotel locations, as well as many United Scrap Metal locations, Servimeters S.A.S. in Bogota, Columbia, and many more.

Additionally, ISSA CIMS-GB-certified building service contractor Farnek Services in Dubai, UAE, is among the first of its kind to achieve GBAC STAR accreditation for its own facility.

Patricia Olinger, GBAC Executive Director, said: “GBAC STAR continues to be a sought-after program because it offers credible third-party validation and provides organisations with a practical framework for cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention. We are excited to welcome these organisations into the prestigious group of GBAC STAR- accredited facilities.”

GBAC STAR is the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response, and recovery accreditation for all types of facilities, including retail, stadiums and arenas, hotels, restaurants, commercial, and more. Accreditation ensures a facility has highly skilled and trained cleaning professionals who follow a strict cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program to minimise risks associated with infectious agents like the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

ISSA Executive Director, John Barrett, added: “No matter where a facility is located, GBAC STAR’s program elements can help organisations establish cleaning and disinfection practices that help prevent the spread of infectious disease. GBAC STAR is truly changing the way the world views cleaning.”
