Bags of choice to make the world cleaner and greener
Cromwell Polythene’s Managing Director, James Lee, looks at the importance of plastic to the cleaning industry and why his family company is one of the best suppliers in the business.
We specialise in the responsible sourcing and distribution of polythene products, making it simple, safe, and hygienic to separate, store and collect waste effectively. Our products are designed to aid the recycling process, or recovery through energy from waste.
We are proud to be an independent, family-run business, which is committed to reliably and consistently supplying high-quality products with the lowest environmental impact. We supply products with the highest reprocessed content, and/or recyclable, reusable, or compostable, helping to make the world cleaner, greener, and more economical.
Polythene materials are essential in the cleaning industry, being used for a variety of bags and liners, and for personal protective equipment (PPE) among other things. They can also help in achieving sustainability goals as, contrary to popular belief, plastics have a very resource-efficient profile and are lighter than alternative packaging materials, helping to reduce CO2

For those in the healthcare sector our clinical waste range includes ‘tiger stripe’ sacks, for disposal of offensive or hygiene waste in deep landfill; yellow UN sacks for incineration of hazardous waste; and orange UN sacks, for the disposal of infectious and potentially infectious waste in alternative treatment (AT) plants.

The range incorporates new, eye-catching packaging, with a fresh logo, better promoting the products’ environmental and performance credentials.

The quality gloves are suitable for most cleaning applications and are food safe, which means they are highly effective for sanitising requirements within food contact areas. The personal protective equipment (PPE) is both latex and powder free, helping to minimise the occurrence of skin irritation. They provide the comfort and performance attributes of latex, but at a lower cost and without the allergy issues with which the material is often associated.
Options available include a blue nitrile examination glove which has strong barrier properties and has high resistance to oils, fats and chemicals; synthetic examination gloves; and vinyl general purpose gloves. The Wave range also includes disposable aprons and water- soluble strip laundry bags.
We have an extensive portfolio, from waste and recycling sacks to all shapes and sizes of bin liners, compactor sacks, clinical waste sacks, and compostable liners. That’s in addition to food-grade bags, kerb-side recycling bags, woven sacks, disposable PPE, as well as a range of film, sheeting and tubing. If you still can’t find what you need, we also offer a bespoke made-to-order service!
Our LowCO2 t range – exclusive to Cromwell Polythene
– is engineered to provide maximum performance using minimal resources, including more than 30% recycled polythene. This not only helps to reduce the volume of plastic used, it also helps by cutting carbon emissions during production and transportation. We are also the sole distributor for compostable bags made from Ecopond
Quality assurance We are accredited by the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA), whose code of practice provides customers with an assurance of professional conduct, customer service and quality.
Cromwell Polythene operates to ISO 9001:2015 standards as well. This includes performing internal audits to check how the quality management system is working and seeking independent verification that we conform to the standard.
