A shining Star We learn more about Star Tissue UK as the company hits its 20th year.
Star Tissue was established in 2003 with the aim of becoming a world-class manufacturer of hygiene paper products. Building on the 45 years of experience the family had in the paper industry, the business started off in a small unit in Blackburn and in 2011 relocated to its current mega site on Waterfall Street.
Star Tissue is one of the UK’s leading independent manufacturers of hygiene paper products. It manufactures a wide range of household and away-from- home paper products from its custom-built production facility in Lancashire. As a family-owned business, Star Tissue is proud of its strong reputation in the industry for providing exceptional customer service and value for money, whilst adhering to the highest ethical and environmental standards.
scheduled maintenance with minimal disruption. In 2021 we fully automated two production lines: this has allowed us to further develop the quality of our current product range whilst introducing brand new iterations.
Star Tissue employees are at the forefront of our ambition to deliver the best possible quality and service to our customers. Our transformation means increased investment in training, equipment and new processes in order to make them safer and less laborious.
The Star Tissue site has now expanded to cover over six acres of land, three state-of-the-art fully automated production lines, and brand-new office facilities to house our exceptional staff. With the recent investment, Star Tissue’s production operation now has the capacity to convert 30,000 tonnes of tissue per annum and produce over 1,000,000 quality rolls per day. Continued investment in the warehouse and logistics operation now sees Star Tissue able to hold over 5,000 pallets of finished goods in stock and deliver up to 500 pallets across the UK and Ireland daily.
Our new state-of-the-art pallet automiser has made our production operations more efficient and less labour intensive. Our forklift fleet is now 80% electric, bringing major benefits to our warehouse operation. Moving to electric forklifts has further reduced our carbon footprint and work-based noise. We have also installed a brand new waste extraction system that extracts waste paper straight from the production line into a recycled waste containment unit, ensuring we recycle 100% of our waste.
