JULIUS RUTHERFOORD RETAINS HEALTHY


WORKPLACE AWARD Julius Rutherfoord has won the Kimberly-Clark Professional Golden Service Awards ‘Healthy Workplace’ category for the second time running.


The ‘Healthy Workplace’ category recognises companies that have taken significant steps to provide a more hygienic office environment to help reduce sickness and increase employee wellbeing.

WINS THE DOUBLE Sarah Southworth, founder of Preston- based, SCS (Specialised Cleaning Services), has brought home the double in just one week, having been awarded the UK's Best Specialist Cleaning Company at the bi-annual Kimberley- Clark Golden Service Awards and Business Services Entrepreneur of the Year at the North West Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2015.


Sarah Southworth, who on her own started the cleaning company in 2007, today delivers specialist cleaning services, including trauma cleaning, asbestos removal, crime scene cleaning and a host of other complex services to businesses and Housing Associations across the North West from its headquarters in Preston, Lancashire.


Sarah said: “Looking back at where I started out, with no funding or financial support, to where we are now, I just can’t believe how far we have come. Winning these awards is validation of all the hard work that myself, my sons – who are now managers in the business – and the rest of the team have put in to become the success we are today.

Leading by example, the cleaning provider implemented the Julius Rutherfoord Healthy Workplace Initiative in 2012, taking a number of steps to reduce risk from germ hotspots. Actions included swab testing for germs and introducing specially formulated mobile phone cleaning wipes and staff workshops to share tips to help reduce the spread of bacteria.

We’ve taken a holistic approach to improving staff well-being, including our own ‘Cleaner of the Month’ certificate. We also pay all of our head office employees the London Living Wage as a minimum and actively encourage our potential clients to adopt the London Living Wage into their cleaning contract.”

The Kimberley-Clark Golden Service Awards, are today seen as a hallmark for quality and excellence, and a benchmark for contract cleaning companies and in-house cleaning teams.


The judges for the awards commented on SCS as “a small family business run by an innovative lady who has catapulted the business into seven specialised operations with great success."


The 14th annual North West Entrepreneur of the Year Awards celebrated the region's top owner- managed businesses at an awards ceremony hosted by business and economics expert, Lord Digby Jones, on October 22nd.
