This ensures that the wipe fits the task, as opposed to the task fitting the wipe.
Do you see any potential for further growth of the Industrial range?
100%. The industrial market, or the wider non-hygiene market, is quite interesting because there’s still very heavy usage of cleaning rags, for example, and there's various materials that are out there, but it's not done in a structured way. I think by bringing some order with our range and showing how it can actually help people’s working practices by wiping properly, wiping better, wiping more efficiently, we can add value and we’re expecting to see some very good growth from it.
What do you think the future holds for Harrisons?
The plan is to carry on growing and developing the business. I think the acquisition of Ecotech confirmed that, and Josh joining the business is another confirmation that we see ourselves just wanting to further establish ourselves in the wiping cloth marketplace. There are lots of opportunities in the wider world that we’re operating in now. It’s exciting times and I do think it’s an advantage that we specialise, as opposed to generalise, and that’s a philosophy I think will continue and I believe will enable us to prosper going forward.
What changes do you see coming to the wipes market?
I think the biggest change to come will be around the materials that are used in relation to sustainability. Already within the Industrial range we’ve got two plastic-free wipes, one certified compostable and another that’s actually certified for home composting. So yeah, I think that sustainability is going to drive things moving forward.
We’ve taken a decision to be a converter in the UK, and we believe this will help us to maximise the volumes that we purchase from the mills that we deal with, and enable us to carry on providing an effective wiping solution for people.
Sustainability is very important to us and it’s of growing importance everywhere. We’re registered with Planet Mark to give year-on-year scope one and two reductions and we’re well on the way to achieving that. We’ve done a lot of work around our product presentation to remove plastics from our packaging. I think every week there’s something new that comes up, whether it’s a requirement from a customer or from the marketplace.
Sustainability is something that you’ve got to swim with: go with the tide and even try and get ahead of it, rather than wait for it to come and get you.

Finally, we’ve heard that you’ve been working with a special social enterprise, what can you tell us about it?
No Going Back (NGB) is a charity that looks to help and work with prisoners. I was introduced to it and I had the incredibly positive experience of going with them into Wandsworth Prison earlier this year to give a talk to a group of prisoners about Harrisons, and also about how the cleaning industry is a great place that can offer opportunity to anybody that really wants to work.
Generally, you don’t have to have gone to school. You don’t have to have gone on to university. You just have to have a good work ethic, to be willing to learn and to develop, in order to really make a career.
Sam Worden from NGB is really an amazing lady. What she’s trying to do is to encourage people to find a way that when they do get released, they will have an opportunity to earn a proper living and have the chance for a new start. I believe that industry initiatives that go beyond profit and go towards helping the wider society like this are fantastic.
