New chapter for Lanes Group

Drainage and wastewater network maintenance service provider, Lanes Group, has announced a change in leadership, with Joanne Gretton taking over as Chief Executive Officer.

Jo joins the company with significant leadership experience, most recently serving as CEO of Telent Technology Services, where she led the business’s successful sale to M Group. She brings a strong track record of leading a complex organisation through change, developing high-performing teams, creating an engaging and supportive workplace, and delivering enhanced shareholder value. Jo formally assumed her role on 29 June 2026.

Jo said: “I’m excited to be joining Lanes Group at such an important time for the business. The company has a strong reputation, fantastic people and a clear commitment to customers. I’m looking forward to building on that as we continue to grow and invest in the future.”

For more than three decades, Lanes Group was guided by Wayne Earnshaw. Since joining in 1992, Wayne has played a central role in transforming the business from a team of 15 employees into a leading organisation employing more than 4,000 people, with annual revenues exceeding £650m.

With the business well-positioned for the future, and with the full support of the board, executive team and investors, Wayne decided to step back from the day-to-day management of the group.

Wayne Earnshaw says: “It’s been a privilege to lead Lanes Group and I’m hugely proud of everything we’ve achieved together. I’m delighted that Jo is stepping in as CEO. She brings the right experience, energy and leadership to take the business forward. I’m excited to see her lead Lanes Group into its next chapter.”

2026 marks 25 years of MSL Solution Providers, the UK microbiological testing and regulatory house for cosmetics, personal care and household cleansing products.

Since its founding in 2001, the company has built a reputation as a global compliance partner, supporting manufacturers, raw material suppliers and brand owners across more than 60 countries with a seamless, integrated approach to product safety and regulatory compliance.

MSL has helped customers navigate significant regulatory changes in the biocides sector, including the introduction of the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) in 2012, the establishment of the UK’s post-Brexit regime and the heightened focus on disinfectant efficacy and claims during the COVID-19 pandemic. Alongside this, ongoing updates to standards and test methods continue to shape how efficacy is demonstrated.

This depth of regulatory and scientific experience strengthens its position as a trusted partner in biocidal product compliance, backed by ISO 9001 accredited regulatory services and UKAS accredited microbiological testing (No. 4045).

Following the retirement of founder Angela Davies, long standing board member Carolyn Burney became Managing Director in 2022, supported by Alex Fotheringham as Operations Director. Together, they continue to strengthen MSL’s scientific capability, expand its global reach and uphold the company’s commitment to high standards and practical, risk led regulation across the industry.

Carolyn commented: “Marking 25 years is a proud moment for everyone at MSL. The industry has changed significantly since 2001, and we’ve adapted with it, broadening our services, deepening our scientific expertise and helping customers respond to increasingly complex regulatory expectations. We’re committed to leading the way on high standards and practical, risk led regulation, and we’re excited about the role we’ll continue to play in supporting safe, compliant and innovative products.”
