We catch up with Matt Hayas, Global Product Manager at Hydro Systems, about virtual trade shows and how the pandemic has changed the chemical dispensing market.


How did you find Interclean Amsterdam Online? Did the virtual format create new opportunities or challenges for you?


As a very important global trade show, Interclean is always a significant date in Hydro


Systems’ calendar. Interclean provided us with a great opportunity to meet virtually with our existing customers, and also to introduce new customers to the benefits of our chemical dispensing solutions. This has taken on a new level of significance this year as the impact of the pandemic makes it more important than ever for businesses to establish strategic partnerships with suppliers they can trust.


In this new era of cleanliness, it’s essential to ensure accurate, safe and cost-effective chemical delivery to keep facilities clean. Our message at Interclean has been to re-emphasise that defining and maintaining a better approach to cleaning and hygiene is crucial for businesses to uphold their reputation. It’s also crucial to enhance their employees’ wellbeing and support their bottom line, enabling them to move forward with confidence post COVID-19.


The virtual format of Interclean has not posed a particular challenge. Hydro has viewed our participation as a continuation of our determination throughout the pandemic to be there for our customers. We have sought to reassure that we are here to serve them with all their dispensing needs.


2020 was a very challenging year, how has Hydro adapted to the necessary changes to continue production and development throughout the pandemic?


Our systems and supply chain are rigorous and well- established. Protecting our customers and our own

employees, as for every other business, has been challenging. As a global leader in chemical dispensing, there are expectations of Hydro in the marketplace. This year has meant reaffirming our existing operational strengths and continuing to meet our own exacting standards, to ensure we minimise any impact on our customers. In addition, we have sought to maintain even closer relationships so we can respond to their needs promptly in constantly changing circumstances.


With the growing expectations for visible clean, we have also found that with the acknowledged reputation of our chemical dispensing products in promoting cleanliness, our expertise has been in greater demand. Especially as recognition of the importance of the highest levels of hygiene in every situation has grown.


We are continuing to respond to this by developing new products and enhancing our existing solutions. Interclean, for example, has provided an opportunity to showcase our new handheld dispensing and foaming technology.


How are you adjusting to the ‘new normal’, and how are your products helping customers do the same?


The impact of the pandemic has created heightened expectations of cleanliness and the need for an even safer working environment. Cleanliness is now a fundamental requirement to operating successfully in the ‘new normal’. Simply reaffirming your commitment to previous cleaning protocols is no longer viewed as acceptable.


Consequently, how you clean and disinfect your facility is subject to more rigorous scrutiny. Achieving and maintaining the highest hygiene standards is important to build the levels of trust required to overcome current challenging circumstances.


It’s important to understand the impact of an outbreak like COVID-19 and the role that chemical dispensers play in upholding cleanliness, along with best practices for selection, installation and maintenance. For any facility
