it presents its own, unique challenges to chemical manufacturers that want to go greener, without losing any of the capability or quality that their products may offer. It’s an issue that Premiere faced, but with Ecolabel accreditation in place, they feel that their high standards are still intact.

Quil added: “A lot of people are becoming far more conscious of their environment and what is going to be left behind for their children, so people don’t want to be using things that are going to be harmful to our environment.

“But equally, they still need something that’s going to work, because if it doesn’t do the job, there’s no point. But each of our Eco-Force products has their own unique license, so we can assure the customer that it’s as green as you can get, but still able to do the job.”

In developing the Eco-Force range, Quil revealed that there was a fair bit of trial and error to find the right ingredients to do the job, while still having the sustainable benefits. She explained: “When you make things sustainable, your ingredients are different. Generally they will be a more natural ingredient, whereas some of the more traditional products

are a bit harsher. Eco-Force was created to do the job, but kinder.

“What they did in the lab was work out what was good and what was bad, and what could be taken out that they could replace with something more natural. But in doing that, they cannot compromise the effectiveness of it, because you wouldn’t get Ecolabel accreditation if it didn’t do the job.

“They do have to work hard at it, because it’s not as easy as just taking things out, because then you’d just end up with water – coloured water, but still just water, which is no use to anybody.”

This drive for more eco-friendly products is something that was inspired by the Scandinavian countries, and their strict rules and regulations when it comes to sustainability. Quil added: “We were influenced a lot by the Scandinavian countries, because they’re always two steps in front with sustainability. They’re always trying to be greener, their rules and regulations are phenomenally tight.

“We used to carry the Nordic Swan, but obviously when Ecolabel came into fruition, it covered not only the Scandinavian countries, but Europe

as well, and became a recognisable symbol in our business.”

So, what’s next for Premiere Products? Now that they have the free rein to focus on chemical manufacturing, their sights are set on innovation and continued growth.

Quil said: “We have to innovate new products, otherwise we might as well have just shut the stalls last year, rather than make the sacrifice to switch part of the business over to Bunzl. That allows us to continue and to move forward in the innovation of cleaning chemicals, to give the best out there to the customer.

“You can’t just stay one dimensional. You’ve got to have a lot of facets to make your company survive and grow. Because the world is changing, there’s always new things coming out and if we stopped that, we might as well shut the doors. As a company you’ve got to grow with the times and with your customers’ requirements and needs. If you don’t, you go out of business, it’s quite simple.”
