COVER STORY
make matting easy to install on all types of floors and provide stability. As well as the functional advantages of the range, contemporary colours can also help improve the visual aspect of the entryway.
Case Study Because of its high performance at collecting dirt and moisture, the Obex® modular entrance matting system has been utilised in the world’s busiest airports, to secure clean and safe floors in their demanding, high traffic areas. However, while selecting the right product is a good starting point, making sure it continues to perform is equally important. Daily vacuuming of the matting area and periodic deep cleaning are recommended to maintain durable performance.
A recent contract with Beijing Airport highlights the importance of this process. As the second busiest airport in the world, Beijing airport management require efficient matting to maintain cleanliness in the building and prevent the risk of slips and falls on their hard floors. The Obex® matting system was specified and installed, but after a period of time, the matting began to look dirty – showing that it is clearly doing its job!
After a site evaluation and meeting with airport management, it was found that, except for a daily vacuum, the airport staff never used a hot water extraction machine to clean the matting areas. A deep clean was then carried out, and the process of water mixed with detergent penetrated the textile, catching the soiling before being immediately extracted. This left minimum moisture that will quickly dry out, thanks to the open construction of the Obex® patented tile, and the matting looked as good as new.
Milliken therefore recommends regular vacuuming and periodic deep cleaning, to ensure that textile performance is maintained and product durability is secured. They offer a five year wear guarantee on the Obex® matting system, providing that regular maintenance is performed.

Take The Lead To meet the rigorous functional specifications of an entryway mat in a heavy traffic area, the Milliken Obex® range is suitable for building contractors and specifiers looking to create that great first impression in public spaces. The commonly used aluminium rigid bar system is aesthetically uninspiring and has low functionality, particularly in public spaces where there is a high volume of wheeled traffic. The resulting noise from luggage trolleys and health and safety risks can be reduced by selecting Forma 16C and Tergo 16C, which offer an attractive solution for sound absorption and elimination of trip hazards. Both Tergo and Forma tiles are offered in a closed construction for easy maintenance. Their 16mm product thickness is ideal for fitting in mat-wells receiving a high foot and wheel traffic.

Environmentally Friendly Obex® textiles are developed using 100% Econyl® fibres, which are regenerated polyamide from post- industrial waste such as carpet manufacturing and post-consumer waste such as fishing nets. When selecting Obex®, customers are choosing products that do good for the world as well as generating an aesthetically pleasing first impression.
Milliken's modular flooring solutions are available in a large choice of designs and colours, allowing you to generate an aesthetically pleasing entranceway that is totally functional while enhancing the design and image you are creating. Milliken digital print technology
provides options to match colours and designs selected for other flooring products. Obex® does what you are paying for: it collects and hides the dirt at the entryway, decreasing the cost of cleaning floors, and avoiding premature replacement of floor coverings.
All Obex® products have a five year wear guarantee. They are installed in the most demanding locations such as airports and large shopping centres, receiving up to 95 million people per year.
