Are you sitting comfortably? Up to 2000 folk attending shows held at the Alban Arena in St Albans have to be – and that means keeping them clean.
Rising to the occasion is contractor Guy Scott, of St Albans- based cleaning company, Scott & Sons.
Opened in 1968, the Alban Arena has since been providing leisure and entertainment to the local population and hosts more than 250 shows each year, including music theatre and comedy. With a capacity of over 2000 people, this popular venue requires regular cleaning and maintenance.
Over the last 35 years, Scott & Sons has provided essential first-class cleaning services throughout the Hertfordshire area, meeting the developing needs of domestic and commercial clients.
Guy may have a large number of staff but he still likes to ‘get his hands dirty’ on many of the more prestigious contracts, adding that this is one.
He continued: “Tasked with cleaning the seating, we were honoured to be the preferred contractor for this important job. Our vast experience in the leisure sector meant that we were fully aware of the importance of choosing the right product for the upholstery.”
Guy and the team set to, starting with a test area using Prochem B108 Fabric Restorer to tackle ice cream deposits and greasy handprints.
The boss said: “It worked a treat, so we progressed with this as our main cleaning agent. A couple of the chairs needed careful attention with a pre-spotter, on this occasion
Prochem’s B144 Stain Pro, as evidence of food staining was very clear.”
Moving onto the carpets in the Arena, the job proved to be a little more straightforward.
Guy commented: “We chose to use Prochem B109 Fibre & Fabric Rinse in the tank with a pre-spray of S709 Multi Pro. The carpets came up extremely well, meaning we produced such a good standard of clean that the client has booked us on a scheduled basis moving forward.”

Opago benefits from Regenex treatment
A London-based property company that provides housekeeping and linen management services is among Regenex’s latest customers.
Opago is counting its cash and carbon savings after turning to Regenex to get the most out of all items. So far the company, which buys, lets and manages a range of property types, has sent four loads of heavily stained towels and bed linen that could not be cleaned conventionally to Regenex for processing.
Regenex’s multi-bath treatment, rooted in textile chemistry knowhow, was a great success. Almost three quarters of items – 73% of the consignment weight – has been returned in pristine white condition to grace many more beds and bathrooms. The pieces, weighing 3.3 tonnes in total, would otherwise have been condemned to landfill or rag, wasting stock and money.
The results have delighted managers at Opago, as treatment has avoided the cost of unnecessary top-up stock and the environmental toll of discarding linen too early in its lifecycle.
